# Overview

### When to Use This Guide?

Deploy Hivel using this guide if all of the following apply:

* You will host Hivel on your own servers, virtual machines, private data center, or cloud-hosted VMs.
* You require full control over where your application and data are hosted.
* Your organization's security or compliance requirements mandate self-managed deployment.

All application data remains within infrastructure managed by your organization.

#### Important Naming Note

Internal Hivel components and the application database are named "insightly". This is Hivel's original/legacy internal product name, retained for backward compatibility. This is not a typo and does not indicate a separate product.

### Alternative Deployments

If deploying Hivel within AWS, Azure, or another specific cloud platform, refer to the corresponding deployment guide ([Virtual Private Cloud](/self-managed-hivel-deployment/virtual-private-cloud.md)) for that platform instead. The core deployment steps are identical, but cloud-specific configuration differs.
